چکیده

The maximum of bacterium inactivation by the SE-5 phage was 2.5 log, achieved after 12 h of applying phage therapy. However, only after 4 h of treatment, the rate of inactivation was already significant (1.9 log) (Figure 3). The phage control remained constant along the experiment. However, when phages incubated in the presence of its host, the concentration increased significantly (0.35 log) after 2 h of phage addition, remaining relatively constant after and until the end of experiment.

EPA worst case water microcosms for testing phage biocontrol of Salmonella.

A microplate method was developed as a tool to test phages for their ability to control Salmonella in aqueous environments. The method used EPA (U.S. Environmental Protection Agency) worst case water (WCW) in 96-well plates. The WCW provided a consistent and relatively simple defined turbid aqueous matrix, high in total organic carbon (TOC) and total dissolved salts (TDS), to simulate swine lag...

Depuration Times of Donax trunculus and Tapes decussatus

The present study was performed to determine the depuration time and ability of Donax trunculus (Wedge Clam) and Tapes decussatus (Carpet Shell) contaminated with Escherichia coli, Salmonella enterica subsp. enterica serovar Typhimurium and Vibrio parahaemolyticus. Clams were contaminated with each bacterium at the level of 7.0 - 8.0 Log10 cfu/g. After contamination, clams were analyzed every 3...

ssrA (tmRNA) plays a role in Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium pathogenesis.

Escherichia coli ssrA encodes a small stable RNA molecule, tmRNA, that has many diverse functions, including tagging abnormal proteins for degradation, supporting phage growth, and modulating the activity of DNA binding proteins. Here we show that ssrA plays a role in Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium pathogenesis and in the expression of several genes known to be induced during infection...

Phage typing, biotyping & antimicrobial resistance profile of Salmonella enterica serotype Typhi from Kolkata.

BACKGROUND & OBJECTIVE Kolkata and its suburbs in eastern India are known to be endemic for typhoid fever. The objective of this study was to determine phage types, biotypes and antimicrobial resistance patterns of Salmonella enterica serotype Typhi isolated during the period 2003-2005 from a prospective surveillance for typhoid fever in two urban slums in Kolkata. METHODS A total of 195 Salm...

Complete genomic sequence of Salmonella enterica serovar Enteritidis phage SE2.

Salmonella enterica serovar Enteritidis has remained a major food-borne pathogen in humans. We isolated a virulent S. enterica serovar Enteritidis bacteriophage, SE2, which belongs to the family Siphoviridae. Phage SE2 could lyse S. enterica serovar Enteritidis PT-4, and its virulence was maintained even at ambient temperature. The genomic sequence of phage SE2 was composed of 43,221 bp with cl...
